My Photo

  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

oooh...pie - we haven't had much in the Pie Field Research area lately - hopefully there will be photos & reports.

I'm glad you had a good trip - and I can't believe it's already been almost a month since I've been in Chicago - so that much closer to your move date! How exciting!

Good luck packing and moving, Claire. And extra good luck *not* having Teh Internetz. That would be *really* hard.

Have fun with Jennifer. Can't wait to get a full report. Have a piece of pie -- or at least a really good bite -- for me.

Claire, feel free to log-in over here in between bites of pie.

I'll also try to keep the lamblets under control, but you may have them yakking your ear off.

Yakking? That didn't look right. Yacking???

Hee-hee! I found some unguarded wireless! Which makes me nervous and reckless all at once! And it's 8pm and I haven't started packing yet... but I'm well into my noir novel set in 1930s Berlin. It's juicy.

I have just poured myself a drink and set up shop to start packing in my room...

Amy, I can't believe it's already been a month!

Jennifer, I think it *is* yakking, but I've been practicing with the entertaining of young ones and have some tricks up my sleeve. Can't wait!

BG! I'll eat a whole dang pie on your account! Wish you could join us.

Claire, the little kids just love you, and why wouldn't they?
As for moving: ugh! I've never managed it without serious migraines and relentless anxiety. But then, your move promises wonderful things; mine have often involved a step-down, much as Manny would argue otherwise.
Then, too, as for packing? I'm advising you NOT to do what I inevitably do: wait until the last possible time frame, or less than what's possible so that I can inadvertently leave a symbol or several of myself behind.
PS Please reveal: what kind of pie. As soon as I get the word, I'm going to try making a version for myself. Store-bought pie is even more unreliable than my baking. And that's saying something.

Claire- thanks for hauling your cookies out to the burbs!!!

WI is the new black. Everybody seems to be vacationing there this year.

Good luck with the packing.
